How To Run A Report

Learn how to run a report using SCOUT

Written by Maddie Wolfe

SCOUT allows you to run point-based and geography-based reports depending on the type of analysis you need. Before generating a report, determine which report type applies to your workflow.

NOTE: Certain reports require specific reporting licenses. Please review your licensing level if you do not see the reports you expect.

Types of Reports

Point-Based Report:

  • Right-click anywhere on the map or directly on a point (e.g., Pushpin, Retail Center, Location).

  • Locate and click on the "Create Report" option.

  • A menu will slide in from the right, displaying all point-based reports available to your account.

NOTE: If you are expecting to run a point-based report, such as a Site Score or Service Line, but do not see it listed, contact your Buxton team for assistance in enabling the correct reporting access.

Standard Point-Based Report:

Geography Based Reports:

Geography based reports require an active geography displayed on your map.

How to Display a Geography

You can display a geography in several ways:

  • Turn on a boundary from the Buxton Data section in the left-hand menu.

  • Right-click on the map and select Add Drive-Time/Ring.

  • Draw a custom polygon to define your own geography.

    • Once the geography is visible on the map, you can run reports using it.

How to Run the Report

  • Right-click inside the boundary.

  • Select "Create Report".

  • SCOUT will display standard geography-based reports, along with any industry-specific or custom reports tied to your account.

Customer-Specific Geography Reports:

These reports vary by organization and may include custom extraction tools or industry-focused reporting packages.

Business Data Extraction Methods

If you need business-level details within a geography, you can:

Use Configurable Reporting:

This is best for generating structured lists of businesses or demographic summaries within a defined area. To learn more about Configurable Reporting, follow the Configurable Report guide.

Manually Review Business Icons:

This method is ideal for retrieving information that may not be included in a large-scale report. For individual business lookups:

  • Enable business icons on the map view.

  • Click any business icon to view its details, including business name and address.

Limitations of Business Data

Buxton does not generally provide complete business name lists for large areas (e.g., full ZIP codes or wide geographies). For broader geographies, consider:

  • Using the Demand Generator or other templates strategically

  • Conducting manual exploration using business icons

  • Requesting custom solutions through your Buxton team
