Importing data can be essential when you have a robust amount of data already available and don't want to re-create all of this data manually.
If you are looking to update or import new data for location/customer data, please contact your account manager so they can assist with either our location importer or receiving and standardizing the data into SCOUT for you.
You do have the ability to import pushpins, polygons, or areas of interest data through our import feature within My Data. We can also activate location uploading for you upon request. If you are looking to create a thematic based on zip codes, click here. Your data can be imported through this feature into multiple separate categories.
To begin this process navigate to the 'My Data' section located along the top banner and select the 'Import' button. This will allow you to import into multiple sections to import either point based or geography based data. The guide below will review each section specifically.
Now navigate to the appropriate section you'd like to import into below. Keep in mind point based data (address or latitude/longitude) can be imported into locations, pushpins, or areas of interest and geography based data (ESRI Shape files) can be imported into territories/custom polygons or areas of interest.
Importing data that require Geocoding
The limit applies only to point based files that require geocoding
The limit on the number of records per import is 5,000
The limit applies per file
An error message will appear if the user uploads a file that exceeds the limit

Importing your data
Click on import data near the top right and select Locations.
Select either Latitude/Longitude or Addresses (SCOUT will geocode your addresses for you, currently built for USA geocodes only).
Name the layer as it will display in SCOUT by either selecting an existing type to override or create a new type. NOTE: this will delete and replace the current layer, not add to it if selecting a current layer.
Select an icon if this is a new layer or simply click and drag the file or click in the shaded box to find the file for upload.
Verify your column headers. The required columns must all be mapped to your appropriate columns. The Location number is a unique identifier and should not repeat in any other types. You can map additional fields to the optional columns if you choose or allow them to fall under the "other columns" section. Now audit your data.
Auditing your data is separated into 3 sections.
‘Locations to be added’ are new locations in the selected file that were not previously found within this location type. Any locations with a unique identifier not found in the existing location type data will be added as a new location.
‘Locations to be removed’ are previous locations that are not present within the current upload file. Any locations not included in the new file with the same unique identifier as before will be removed.
‘Locations to be updated’ were matched within both the previous location data and the new upload file. Any data associated with these locations will be updated accordingly.
You will receive a notification when the data has all successfully imported and can immediately view it via My Data by clicking on the notification or view your new layer in SCOUT.
