This section is broken out between USA demographic data, International demographic data, and other thematic data. International data is accessible if your company has purchased separate country based data. Additional thematics may be purchased for many other variables we have in house and placed in your SCOUT portal that will function very similar to these. In this article, we will review the standard demographic thematics and dot densities as well as evaluate how to use them.
Viewing and Reviewing Thematic Data
USA Demographic Data
The layers can be found in the "Thematics" group underneath the "Buxton Data". The thematics are measured at the standard Block Group Level.

Ages 0-17: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 10-17: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 18+: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 18-24: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 25-34: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 35-44: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 45-54: measured in counts as a thematic
Ages 55+: measured in counts as a thematic

Population
Daytime Population: measured in population as a thematic
Population Density: measured in population per square mile as a thematic
Population Growth: measured in growth % for the next 5 years as a thematic
Total Households: measured in households as a dot density
Total Population: measured in population as a dot density
Race / Ethnicity
Asian Population: measured in population as a dot density
Black Population: measured in population as a dot density
Hispanic Population: measured in population as a dot density
White Population: measured in population as a dot density
Canada Demographic Data
The layers can be found in the "Thematics" group underneath the "Buxton Data". As an example of International data we will take a look at the Canada demographic data. *Variables available may be different for different countries. The standard Canada layers include the following, measured at the standard Dissemination Area Level.

Population Density: measured in population per square mile as a thematic
Population Growth: measured in growth % for the next 5 years as a thematic
Total Households: measured in households as a dot density

Other Thematics
The layers can be found in the "Thematics" group underneath the "Buxton Data". The other section will contain additional thematic based data.
Data Information
Commercial Class 7/8 Trucks (as a 1/4 mile Grid)
% Traveling East: % of observed commercial class 7/8 trucks traveling East
% Traveling North: % of observed commercial class 7/8 trucks traveling North
% Traveling South: % of observed commercial class 7/8 trucks traveling South
% Traveling West: % of observed commercial class 7/8 trucks traveling West
Average Daily Volume: Average daily count of unique vehicle ID values to appear in each grid measured in raw estimated counts
Stopped Score - National: ‘Stopped Score’ indexed to national volume. A high Stopped Score indicates that a large number of commercial class 7/8 trucks are observed to be stopped relative to national volumes of commercial trucks.
Stopped Score - State: ‘Stopped Score’ indexed to state volume. A high Stopped Score indicates that a large number of commercial class 7/8 trucks are observed to be stopped relative to state volumes of commercial trucks.
Vehicle Registration (as a thematic)
Electric Vehicles Count: Count of fully electric vehicles (Not Hybrid)
Luxury Vehicle %: % of "luxury" (as defined by our provider) vehicles in the given area
Luxury Vehicle Count: Count of "luxury" (as defined by our provider) vehicles in the given area

Non-Luxury Vehicle Count: Count of "non-luxury" (as defined by our provider) vehicles in the given area
Total Vehicle Count: Total Vehicles in the given area
Vehicles 10+ Years Old Count: Count of vehicles older than 10 years in the given area

Using Thematics and Dot Densities
Dot Densities
Select a layer to view it as a dot density (where applicable). All of the dot density layers can also be visualized as a thematic map. To review the thematic controls simple scroll down to the next section. In the example below, Total Households in the Fort Worth, TX area is displayed.
Select "Active Items" at the top to update your layer visually. These options can be altered from active items.
Dot Density/Thematic Toggle - Toggle between dot density and thematic view.
Range Slider - Update the range of your values.
Color Slider - Update the color of your dots.
Opacity - Update the color density of your dots (solid vs. transparent).
Darkness Slider - Update the darkness of your dots.
Reset - Restore everything to their default settings.
Save - Save changes you have made so that the next time you log in, you will not have to make updates each time.
As an example of these features, the following modifications are all applied to the layer below:
Value range updated so that 1 green dot equals approximately 10 households rather than the default 1
Color modified from default of green to red.
Shifted the opacity and darkness to get a brighter red.
Thematics
Simply select a layer to view it as a thematic (where applicable).
In this example below, median household income values in the Fort Worth, TX area are displayed.
Select "Active Items" at the top to update your layer visually. These options can be altered from active items.
Value Range Slider - Update the range of your values. if values fall outside your range then the block group will not fill in
Color Slider - Update the color of your thematic range. Note: The color slider creates a gradient between the two selected colors; intermediate values will display blended colors and exactly two discrete colors cannot be achieved.
Opacity - Update the color density of your dots (solid vs. transparent).
Darkness Slider - Update the darkness of your thematic.
Reset - Return everything back to their original settings.
Save - Save changes you have made so next time you log in you will not have to make updates each time. Note: Certain map elements, such as the red outline around state layers, are fixed and cannot be removed.
Basemap Customization - Use the globe icon in the toolbar to access map settings and select a basemap (e.g., gray, blue, green) to change the overall map appearance.
As an example of these features, the following modifications are all applied to the layer below:
Value range updated to capture a higher dollar value in the market place
Modified the color range to provide more variability in the color scheme.
Clicked map to reveal hover box of specific value being tracked. This functions whether or not the block group falls within the range.
